At the 2nd Nyéléni Global Forum, held at the Nyéléni Center in Mali in February 2015, delegates from diverse organizations representing small-scale food producers—peasants, Indigenous Peoples, family farmers, fisherfolk, pastoralists, and rural workers—gathered to affirm Agroecology as a pillar of Food Sovereignty. These groups, producing 70% of the world’s food, stand at the forefront of sustainable agriculture and social justice.
Together, we explored Agroecology as a form of resistance to industrial agriculture, recognizing it as a practice that honors biodiversity, local knowledge, and the rights of communities to control their lands and resources. Agroecology provides a solution to the crises caused by the corporate food system—environmental degradation, land grabbing, and the commodification of nature.
We denounced the co-optation of Agroecology by corporate interests and called for the protection of the Commons, women’s leadership, and youth engagement in shaping food systems for future generations. United, we stand for the collective construction of Agroecology, grounded in equity, solidarity, and harmony with our Mother Earth.
